Bixbus School

The Bixbus School, Bixbus's flagship educational institution, opened on 9th December 2019 as a purpose-built campus designed for ten thousand students, replacing the improvised Learning Grove. Led by principal Emma Thompson, it formalised the community-integrated learning model — morning academics grouped by ability, afternoon mentorship placements across the city — that defined Clivilius education. Connected to the metropolitan area by underground rail, tram, and monorail, it served more than ten thousand students by 2026 and anchored a network of over fifty schools.

Bonython Hall, South Australia

Bonython Hall was the great ceremonial hall of the University of Adelaide, a Gothic Revival building of dressed sandstone on the city's North Terrace, completed in 1936 as the gift of the newspaper proprietor Sir John Langdon Bonython. Famous for a floor that sloped — by legend, so that the pious benefactor's hall could never be used for dancing — it was the room in which the university conferred its degrees, and where generation after generation of South Australians crossed from students into their professions. Between its ceremonies it served as the university's great examination hall.

Bristol Grammar School, Bristol

Bristol Grammar School was founded by royal charter in 1532, endowed by the merchant brothers Robert and Nicholas Thorne; its motto Ex Spinis Uvas — 'Grapes from Thorns' — was a pun on its founders' name. One of England's oldest schools, it survived across nearly five centuries Tudor lawsuits, the Civil War, Georgian decline, the Blitz of 1940 and the long arguments over privilege and co-education, moving four times before settling at Tyndall's Park in 1879. It sent generations of Old Bristolians into the sciences, the professions and public life.

Bristol Technical School, Bristol

Bristol Technical School grew from the Bristol Artisans' Institute of 1856, an evening class for working men, into the city's technical school, reconstituted in 1893 under the Victorian drive to fund technical education. Taking the plain motto 'By Hand and Brain', it trained the fitters, draughtsmen and aircraft workers of an industrial city — above all for the Filton aeroplane works — and stood as the practical counterpart to Bristol's ancient grammar school. Its alumni include agricultural innovator Gregory Selway, Kingsford Smith Pub proprietors Alfred and Rosalind Harris, and Cody Brian Jennings—whose restless adolescence within its corridors offered no hint of the extraordinary path that awaited him. Gawler Primary School has served the children of South Australia's oldest inland town since its establishment in 1857. Originally a modest single-room schoolhouse constructed from locally quarried limestone near Murray Street, the school has expanded across nearly 170 years to encompass multiple buildings, modern facilities, and an enrolment that reflects Gawler's growth from colonial settlement to Adelaide satellite community. Glenelg Primary School

Glenelg Primary School, established in 1881 in the seaside suburb where South Australia had been proclaimed in 1836, was a government school near the heart of Holdfast Bay that taught the children of the whole community — professional, working-class, and migrant alike — for generations. Across more than a century it served as a quiet cornerstone of local identity. Among the many teachers who learnt their craft in its classrooms was Elizabeth Jenkins, who taught there from 1974 to 1985.

Greyson Institute, Black Hallows

The Greyson Institute was founded in 1948 as a specialist research institution within Black Hallows, named in honour of Dr. Emiliana Greyson with her reluctant blessing. Where the Hallows Academy trained the practical workforce that sustained the breeding facility's daily operations, the Greyson Institute focused on the scientific disciplines that drove its intellectual direction — genetics, evolutionary biology, ecological theory, and the study of Clivilian adaptation. Helena Black was instrumental in its establishment. Following the CGRN connection in 2022, the Institute became the primary point of collaboration between Black Hallows and Clivilius National University in Bixbus.

Launceston College, Tasmania

Standing on ground that once held convict women in the octagonal cells of the Launceston Female Factory, Launceston College has educated northern Tasmania's youth since its establishment as the Launceston State High School in 1913. The institution occupies a site whose heritage sandstone walls witnessed both punishment and reformation before the gaol's demolition made way for classrooms in 1916. Now Tasmania's largest senior secondary college, offering over one hundred and twenty subjects across academic and vocational pathways, it has shaped generations of Tasmanians—teachers, scientists, emergency responders, and civil servants—who carry its ethos of practical achievement and intellectual rigour into every sphere of the island's life.

Portsmouth Grammar School, Hampshire

The Portsmouth Grammar School was founded by bequest of Dr William Smith, physician to the garrison and former mayor of Portsmouth, who died in 1732 and left his estate of East Standen Farm on the Isle of Wight to the Dean and Canons of Christ Church, Oxford, with instructions to establish a grammar school in the town. The trustees accumulated rents from the property for nearly two decades before purchasing a house in Penny Street, behind which the school building was erected, and the first pupils were received in 1753 under the headship of the Reverend John Evans. For almost three centuries the school has educated the sons — and, since 1976, the daughters — of Portsmouth's professional and mercantile families, its fortunes rising and falling with those of the city it serves, its survival a testament to the obstinacy of a dying man's wish and the capacity of institutions to outlast the circumstances that created them.

South Downs Primary School

South Downs Primary School was a government primary on the South Australian Housing Trust's grid in Elizabeth, a modest brick school serving the working-class and migrant families of the northern suburbs, where most pupils qualified for the school card. Known for the orderly German classroom of Helene Franciska Schmidt, it gave structure to children whose homes often lacked it — among them Luke Smith and Jamie Greyson, whose formative childhood friendship began there, and, a decade later, Taryn Novak.

St Ives Primary School, Cornwall

St Ives Primary School — encompassing what are now the separate infant and junior schools on The Stennack — has educated the children of this Cornish fishing and artistic community since the early 1880s. Designed in 1878 by Silvanus Trevail, Cornwall's most prominent Victorian architect, as a Board School under the provisions of the 1870 Education Act, it was built to serve the growing population of a town whose economy was still dominated by pilchards and tin. The plans were exhibited at the 1878 Paris Exhibition and at international exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney, a measure of ambition that reflected both the architect's reputation and the confidence of a community investing in its children's future. For nearly a century and a half, the school has shaped the lives of generations raised between granite and salt water — among them Sharon Louise Reynolds, who began her education here in September 1980 and carried the resilience and creative instincts cultivated in its classrooms to a life far beyond the shores of St Ives Bay.

Stirling East Primary School, South Australia

Stirling East Primary School stood in the Adelaide Hills from 17 July 1861, when it opened as a single forest classroom in a district barely two decades settled. Across more than a century and a half it grew with the country around it, teaching generation after generation of Hills children through colony, state and the slow suburbanisation of the ranges, while never leaving the green and wooded ground that had always defined it. A public primary school shaped as much by its setting as its syllabus, it remained the place where, for countless Hills families, childhood formally began.

The Hallows Academy

The Hallows Academy was established in 1921 in Black Hallows as a formal educational institution growing out of the breeding facility's long tradition of apprenticeship training. Housed within the cliff complex, the Academy trained generations of animal handlers, veterinary assistants, agricultural workers, land managers, and other specialists required to sustain the facility and the settlement. Following the CGRN connection in 2022 and the explosive growth of Black Hallows, the Academy expanded significantly, establishing satellite campuses on the plains and broadening its curriculum to meet the demands of the Clivilian Ecological Seeding Programme.

The Learning Grove, Bixbus

The Learning Grove was Bixbus's first educational facility, established in August 2018 in four modified shipping containers near the settlement's centre. Founded by Jenny Triffett, Emma Thompson, and Greta Smith, it pioneered community-integrated learning — mornings for ability-based academics, afternoons for practical placements at community sites. Rapid population growth forced ad hoc expansion into a sprawling campus of temporary structures serving thousands by mid-2019. It was decommissioned in December 2019 when students transferred to the purpose-built Bixbus School. The original four containers were preserved as a public garden.

Truro High School for Girls, Cornwall, England

Truro High School for Girls, founded in 1880 by Edward White Benson — the first Bishop of Truro and future Archbishop of Canterbury — is one of Cornwall's oldest and most distinguished independent schools. Established so that Benson's own daughters might receive the same quality of education available to boys, the school opened at 27 Lemon Street with just fifteen pupils and has grown, across nearly a century and a half, into a thriving day and boarding school for girls aged three to eighteen. From its present site on Falmouth Road, overlooking the spires of the cathedral whose construction Benson initiated in the same year, the school has shaped generations of young women — among them professors, journalists, artists, and entrepreneurs — while remaining rooted in the Cornish landscape and community that have defined its character since the beginning.

University of Adelaide, South Australia

The University of Adelaide was founded in 1874 as the third university in Australia and the first in South Australia, built on the pastoral and mining fortunes of benefactors such as Walter Watson Hughes and Thomas Elder. From its sandstone campus on North Terrace it trained the professional class of the state — its doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists and musicians — for the better part of two centuries. The University of Exeter is a public research university in south-west England, with its principal campus on the Streatham Estate in the cathedral city of Exeter, Devon. Its origins lie in civic institutions founded from 1838 onward, and it received its Royal Charter in 1955, exactly a century after the establishment of the Exeter School of Art. A member of the Russell Group since 2012, the university enrols over thirty thousand students and counts among its alumni J. K. The University of Southampton traces its origins to the Hartley Institution, established in 1862 through a bequest of one hundred and three thousand pounds from Henry Robinson Hartley, an eccentric wine merchant who wished to advance the sciences and liberal arts for the people of Southampton. University of Tasmania (UTAS)

The University of Tasmania, established in 1890, stands as Australia's fourth-oldest university and the southern hemisphere's most southerly. Winchester College, Hampshire, England

Winchester College is the oldest continuously operating school in England, founded in 1382 by William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester and Chancellor of England, to educate seventy scholars drawn from poor and deserving backgrounds and prepare them for entry to his companion foundation, New College, Oxford. Designed by master mason William Wynford and built in the Perpendicular Gothic style on a site south of the cathedral close, the college established the institutional model that Eton, King's College Cambridge, and the English public school tradition would subsequently follow. Its medieval buildings — chapel, hall, cloisters, and courtyards — remain in daily use more than six centuries after their construction, and the seventy scholars still live in the original fourteenth-century chambers.
