INCIDENT SUMMARY
On 29 July 2018 at approximately 15:03 hours, Detective Senior Constable Jenkins and Detective Constable Lahey, operating in an unmarked police vehicle (Fleet #632), were conducting routine patrol duties in Glenorchy when they observed a silver Honda Civic exit the car park of Glenorchy Bottle Shop at speed.
The vehicle, subsequently identified as being driven by Ms. Gladys Marie Cramer, executed a sharp right turn onto Main Road and swerved dangerously close to a parked red hatchback (registration not obtained). The manoeuvre appeared reckless and posed potential danger to other road users.
Officers initiated a traffic stop at 15:03 hours using emergency lights. The driver complied immediately, pulling the vehicle to the side of Main Road approximately 200 metres from the bottle shop.
INITIAL TRAFFIC STOP
Time: 15:03 hours
Location: Main Road, Glenorchy (northbound lane)
Detective Constable Lahey approached the driver's side of the vehicle whilst Detective Senior Constable Jenkins conducted a vehicle registration check.
Upon request, the driver provided her driver's license, identifying herself as Gladys Marie Cramer. When questioned about potential alcohol consumption, Ms. Cramer stated she had consumed no alcohol and indicated a brown paper bag on the passenger seat containing sealed wine bottles she had just purchased.
Detective Constable Lahey administered a roadside breath test using approved screening device (Unit #4782). Result: 0.00 BAC
During this interaction, Detective Senior Constable Jenkins' vehicle registration check revealed the Honda Civic was registered to Jamie Andrew Greyson (DOB: 18/11/1991), a person of interest in ongoing Missing Persons investigation MP-2018-0623.
Detective Senior Constable Jenkins assumed primary contact with Ms. Cramer whilst Detective Constable Lahey returned to the police vehicle.
INTERVIEW WITH MS. CRAMER (15:07-15:12 hours)
Detective Senior Constable Jenkins conducted roadside interview with Ms. Cramer. Key points established:
- Ms. Cramer confirmed Jamie Greyson had lent her the vehicle approximately one week prior
- Ms. Cramer stated she possessed keys to both the vehicle and Mr. Greyson's residence
- Ms. Cramer indicated she was en route to Mr. Greyson's residence at [ADDRESS REDACTED], Berriedale, where she claimed Mr. Greyson's partner, Luke Smith, was preparing dinner
- Ms. Cramer agreed to officers following her to the residence to verify Mr. Greyson's welfare
No traffic infringement notice was issued at this time given the connection to the ongoing investigation and Ms. Cramer's cooperation.
SECOND TRAFFIC STOP
Time: 15:18 hours
Location: Berriedale Road (approaching Wallcrest Road intersection)
Whilst following Ms. Cramer's vehicle up Berriedale Road, officers observed the driver engaging in what appeared to be mobile phone use whilst driving. The vehicle displayed erratic behaviour including:
- Weaving within the lane
- Reduced speed (approximately 35 km/h in a 60 km/h zone)
- Sudden swerve toward the left safety barrier
Officers activated emergency lights at 15:17 hours. Ms. Cramer did not respond. Officers activated siren at 15:18 hours, at which point Ms. Cramer pulled to the side of Berriedale Road.
Detective Senior Constable Jenkins conducted second roadside interview. Ms. Cramer denied mobile phone use but appeared distracted. No traffic infringement notice issued given the investigative priority of locating Mr. Greyson and Mr. Smith.
Officers continued following Ms. Cramer to the Berriedale residence.
ATTENDANCE AT RESIDENCE
Time of Arrival: 15:26 hours
Location: [ADDRESS REDACTED], Wallcrest Road, Berriedale
Ms. Cramer pulled into the driveway of a two-storey, split-level residence. Officers parked on the street and approached on foot.
Ms. Cramer knocked on the front door. No response was received. Ms. Cramer expressed surprise, stating she had not been absent long and expected Mr. Smith to be present.
Detective Senior Constable Jenkins noted Ms. Cramer possessed keys to the residence and requested she allow officers entry to conduct a welfare check on Mr. Greyson, given he had been reported missing by his sister, Louise Jeffries, on 28 July 2018.
After brief hesitation, Ms. Cramer unlocked the front door at approximately 15:29 hours and permitted officers to enter.
PREMISES SEARCH
Officers conducted a preliminary search of the residence to locate Mr. Greyson or Mr. Smith. Search findings:
Upper Level (Main Living Area):
- Living room, kitchen, dining area: No occupants present
- Kitchen showed no evidence of recent meal preparation
- No signs of disturbance or forced entry
- Personal effects appeared undisturbed
Lower Level:
- Two bedrooms: No occupants present
- Bathroom: No occupants present
- Rear sliding doors were locked from inside
- No signs of disturbance
Overall Assessment: The residence appeared clean and well-maintained but showed no evidence of recent occupation. No indication of meal preparation was evident despite Ms. Cramer's assertion that Mr. Smith had been cooking dinner.
INTERVIEW WITH MS. CRAMER AT RESIDENCE
Time: 15:35-15:48 hours
Location: Front living room of residence
Officers conducted informal interview with Ms. Cramer regarding:
- Her relationship with Mr. Greyson and Mr. Smith
- When she last had contact with either individual
- Her knowledge of their current whereabouts
- The circumstances under which she came to possess Mr. Greyson's vehicle and keys
Ms. Cramer's Statements:
- She is a friend of both Mr. Greyson and Mr. Smith
- She last spoke with Mr. Smith earlier that day (29 July) via telephone
- Mr. Smith told her he was at the residence preparing dinner and invited her to join him
- She had borrowed Mr. Greyson's car approximately one week ago with his permission
- She could not explain why neither Mr. Greyson nor Mr. Smith was present
- She suggested they might have "stepped out" but could not provide specifics
Officer Assessment: Ms. Cramer's account was vague and at times contradictory. She appeared nervous and evasive when pressed for specific details. Her explanation for possessing Mr. Greyson's vehicle and keys was plausible but could not be verified given Mr. Greyson's absence.
ACTIONS TAKEN
- Officers documented the condition of the residence with written notes
- Ms. Cramer was advised that Mr. Greyson had been reported missing and that his family was concerned for his welfare
- Ms. Cramer was requested to contact police immediately if she had any contact with either Mr. Greyson or Mr. Smith

- Follow-up interview with Ms. Cramer recommended
- Welfare check on Mr. Greyson remains outstanding

ADDITIONAL NOTES
The circumstances of this incident raise several investigative concerns:
- Ms. Cramer's possession of Mr. Greyson's vehicle and residence keys
- Discrepancy between Ms. Cramer's account (expecting Mr. Smith at residence) and reality (no one present, no evidence of meal preparation)
- Ms. Cramer's evasive responses when questioned about specifics
- The connection between Ms. Cramer and two individuals central to Missing Persons investigation
Recommend priority follow-up interview with Ms. Cramer and continued efforts to locate both Mr. Jamie Greyson and Mr. Luke Smith.
