Henri Greyson-Smith
Henri Greyson-Smith is a Shih Tzu whose chubby contentment and food-driven priorities define his approach to life in both Berriedale and Clivilius. Named to honour the union between Luke Smith and Jamie Greyson, Henri embodies peaceful laziness and impressive appetite—a dog who conserves energy for truly important matters like meals and comfortable naps. His theatrical bedtime ritual of circling precisely before settling, his shark-like enthusiasm when food appears, and his timid retreat to familiar sanctuaries during chaos make him the gentler, more contemplative counterpart to his energetic brother Duke.

The Food-Motivated Companion
Henri arrived in the Smith-Greyson household alongside Duke, but where his brother brought alert intelligence and energetic devotion, Henri brought something simpler: an unshakeable commitment to comfort and cuisine. His personality centred around two primary motivations—eating and resting—with occasional bursts of enthusiasm reserved exclusively for the former.
The word "chicken" held magical power over Henri. At its mention, his body would freeze mid-action, tail beginning its enthusiastic wagging with such vigour that his whole rotund form would rock. His appetite manifested with startling intensity—mouth expanding to accommodate treats with teeth-grazing eagerness that earned him the nickname "the little shark." Where Duke's food motivation reflected intelligence and anticipation, Henri's was pure, primal hunger translated into focused determination.
Henri's physical form reflected his lifestyle choices. Chubby where Duke was trim, leisurely where Duke was alert, Henri cultivated comfort through strategic rest and never missing a meal. His foxy tail, fuller than Duke's, served as an enthusiasm meter during feeding times, occasionally causing him to collapse from sheer happiness when food arrived.
His nightly ritual became as predictable as Duke's morning wake-up routine. With meticulous precision, Henri would circle his chosen spot—whether Berriedale bed or Clivilius tent floor—pawing at the surface with ritualistic care before finally settling into a compact curl. His contented snorts signalled successful completion of this theatrical performance, a sound that typically brought smiles to his humans.
The Reluctant Adventurer
Henri's crossing into Clivilius on 25 July 2018 came not from curiosity or loyalty but from gleeful rebellion. When delivery driver Joel discovered Luke's carelessly open Portal, and Luke desperately commanded Henri to get back inside, Henri saw only irresistible opportunity. Joel's trembling attempt to bar his path meant nothing—Henri bolted forward with stubborn determination, ears flapping like banners of defiance, and vanished into the Portal's swirling light before anyone could stop him.
Luke, still holding Duke, had no choice but to plunge through after him, transforming Henri's mischievous sprint into the catalyst for dimensional disaster.
Once there, Henri adapted through his characteristic approach: establish feeding routines, find comfortable resting spots, avoid unnecessary engagement. While humans grappled with existential questions about displacement and survival, Henri focused on whether meals arrived on schedule and if adequate bedding existed. His priorities remained admirably consistent across dimensional boundaries.
Survivor and Reminder
On the night Duke died, Henri's characteristic laziness likely saved his life. While Duke sensed approaching danger with alert intelligence, Henri performed his nightly circling ritual and settled contentedly beneath blankets. The creature attack that claimed Duke occurred while Henri slept peacefully, his survival coming not from action or intervention but from remaining exactly where he was.
The morning after revealed Henri's innocent confusion at Duke's absence. He wandered toward breakfast whilst Duke lay still, his food-focused nature unable to process permanent loss. His pitiful glances and stubborn searches for his missing brother showed that even Henri's simple nature recognised something irreplaceable had vanished.
Henri became Jamie's living connection to what remained—a thread of continuity when everything shattered. As Jamie prepared to leave camp seeking Joel, he entrusted Henri to Paul's care, transforming the small dog from pet to precious responsibility. Henri represented bonds that endure beyond presence, love that persists through loss.
