Preferred format: Digital copy on external storage media (hard drive or USB), to be couriered to the requesting agency at the address above.
LEGAL BASIS FOR REQUEST
This request is made under the authority of Tasmania Police in connection with an active concern-for-welfare investigation. The information sought is relevant to establishing the whereabouts and welfare of two persons reported missing on 28 July 2018. This request does not constitute a warrant and is made on the basis of voluntary cooperation between Tasmania Police and the recipient organisation. Should the recipient require a formal court order to release the requested information — particularly in respect of CCTV footage — please advise the requesting officer immediately so that appropriate legal process may be initiated.
URGENCY AND JUSTIFICATION
Both subjects were reported missing on 28 July 2018. Information received during the initial investigation suggests one or both subjects may have travelled interstate. The Spirit of Tasmania represents the only non-aviation transport route between Tasmania and the Australian mainland. Verification of passenger and vehicle records is required urgently to confirm or eliminate this line of enquiry. CCTV footage is additionally requested to establish whether either subject attended the terminal without completing the booking or boarding process, which may indicate intent to travel or contact with other persons of interest.
CONFIDENTIALITY
All information provided in response to this request is to be treated as confidential and used solely for the purposes of the above-referenced investigation. Information will be stored in accordance with Tasmania Police information management protocols and will not be disclosed to third parties except as required by law or court order.
