Chains and Keys
Early morning. Still in the cursed black dress. Beatrix stands barefoot outside the antique shop she once shared with Brody—the place where her dream died, where guilt still lives. A new padlock bars the door. But Leigh finds her in the alley, brings bolt cutters from Clivilius, and offers something more dangerous than entry: a Portal Key. Join Luke's team. Reclaim everything. Leave the past behind. But first, she must walk through it.
July 26th, 2018. 5:00 AM.
Beatrix never went home after Joel's memorial. Couldn't burn the dress. Couldn't escape the spiral. Instead, she finds herself across the road from their closed shop—barefoot, shivering, haunted.
The key Detective Karl Jenkins slipped her during the eviction still fits the lock. But now there's a chain. A padlock. One more barrier between her and the past she can't let go.
Then Leigh appears. Because he always does.
He brings warmth, bolt cutters, and questions she's avoided. Inside, dust and cobwebs shroud memories of Brody's laugh, casino blackmail, deadly threats, and the choice that killed him. The broken porcelain dolls still litter the floor—her rage frozen in time.
Leigh offers her a Portal Key. A way forward. A calling.
But Beatrix isn't ready to leap.
Not today.
