Escape and Evasion
A car horn shatters the morning calm at Luke's house. Beatrix peers through the blinds and recognizes a face from her past—Detective Karl Jenkins. She flees through a Portal, leaving Luke behind. Trapped and unable to activate his malfunctioning Portal Key, Luke hides as Karl breaks in, overhearing a neighbour's damning observations. Two Guardians, one threat, two desperate strategies for survival when the past comes knocking.
The morning begins with muesli bars and Portal frustrations. Beatrix and Luke discuss recruitment plans over inadequate breakfast, their conversation casual despite headaches and exhaustion. Then a car horn destroys everything.
Beatrix peers through the blinds and sees him—Detective Karl Jenkins, parked across the road. A ghost from a past she's tried to bury. Without hesitation, she opens a Portal and vanishes, leaving Luke to face the threat alone.
But Luke's Portal Key won't activate. Panic mounting, he watches Karl jump the back fence, hears him prowling outside the bedroom window. He hides, listening as the detective interrogates Terry, the observant neighbour who's noticed too much about their "deliveries." Glass shatters. Luke runs. His sanctuary is compromised.
Two perspectives. One intrusion. The moment everything changes and the house on Berriedale Road becomes a liability neither Guardian can afford.
